THIRTY

I turned 30 yesterday! I spent the day looking for a new place to live and wrestling my toddler into submission, you know just like every other day of my life. I finally am coming to the realization that I will have to go back to work soon. We don't want to rent for the rest of our lives and we definitely cannot afford a mortgage on my husband's salary alone. So, back to work it is. I finally caved and contacted my old boss for a referral letter and have started trolling Craigslist for job listings. I am looking for the most flexible and least stressful job possible. My little Monkey will be three soon and he is definitely ready to be around other kids, I guess I have to let go of my fears of not being with him 24/7. I definitely need to be around him than he needs to be around me. Being a mother is the hardest thing in the world.

FLA to NY....

So, I'm off to New York for the weekend. I have never been away from my little Monkey for more than a few hours. I will miss him terribly, but I need a little break from being Mommy. I can't wait to see my pregnant friend and my brothers... It will be fun to be in New York again, alone and with no responsibilities. I can't believe how much work it is to plan for a weekend away. Making lists, packing bags, buying travel size airport approved toiletries..... aaaaggghhh! I should just check my bag, If I can't bring my cattle prod on the plane it just won't be any fun!

Long to Short

I finally got my hair cut today. It's been almost a year since my last haircut and my hair was halfway down my back, now it is at my shoulders and it feels like I lost three pounds (if only that were true!) It's so nice to not have to deal with all of this hair in this heat. Ironically enough, I think it's been hotter in New York than it has been here in South Florida (NY -0; FLA- 1) this summer.

Monkey has a new little trick I taught him yesterday, I say that I have to tell him a secret and he comes really close and puts his hand around my head to pull me close to his ear so I can tell him the secret. Having a two year old has been so much fun and so much work. He is so adorable and is learning so many things by the minute. He is also extremely strong willed and he loves to get into everything he can. I love that little boy.

The winds are blowing....

Hurricane Dean took out half the Caribbean and is currently barreling it's way through Mexico and I am definitely starting to worry. We moved to South Florida about 10 months ago and this is our first hurricane season here. I am starting to worry that we are definitely not prepared should a hurricane come our way. Somehow, I'm starting to think a can of tuna and a flashlight are not enough to keep us in good shape should we lose power or worse. I mean, I don't think my husband would be tastier than a can of Spam... I guess it's time to stop living in denial and realize that we've traded stinky, lovely New York for Hot, Tropical, Hurricane-y Florida.

From Brooklyn to FLA

Leaving New York to live in a sunnier, warmer climate isn't all it's cracked up to be. I want this blog to be a chronicle of my transition from NY to being a SAHM living in Florida.
